Welcome to Unqualified Film Critic, a place for film reviews from a common guy who watches a lot of movies. This project is personal and not monetized. It's just thoughts on what is like or disliked from a vast library on a Plex server. And with that many movies, there are some that are culturally popular but also some obscure cult classics. As such, reviews will include films that are both popular and unpopular alike.
Further, I have invited some others to contribute since I am not the only unqualified film critic. There are many out there; so, from time to time others will cameo here. Regardless of who writes the review, let's consider what one can expect in the film reviews. Every film will have a block of metadata about the movie in the upper-righthand corner. This helps one find the film, especially for those unknown or supercilious idie films.
Not all of the fields will used for every review; however, the list below will be a simple explanation (in case they are not self-explanatory):
Year: This is the year the film had been released
Genres: A list of the category of the film, such as comedy, mystery, thriller, etc
MPAA/TV: This is the rating system of the Motion Picture Assoc, assuming it has been rated. Of course, the movie might have been made for television, which also has a rating system. However, prior to 1968, there were no ratings; so these films are listed as “Not Rated” in most cases. However, more and more films were released to video to avoid the MPAA and several ones that aren't shown in the typical theater have no rating. For this group, “Unrated” is used, which often implies that it will not be familiy-friendly.
Age Aptness: Purely the opinion of the reviewer of what the age of the audience which the film is targeting
IMDB Rating: The average of user votes about the film with 1 being terrible and 10 being the best film ever
Unqualified: This is the opinion of the reviewer on a scale of 1 to 10 whether the film is worth watching
Language: Typically, if this is omitted the film will be in English; however, if it is an undubbed, then the original language will be listed
Based On: Often a film is based on a book; however, when the book or author is well-known, such as a Stephen King or John Grisham, then the source material will be listed. Also when the story is a reasonably accurate telling of a true story, it may be noted here as well
Studio: This is obviously the studio that produced the film. It won't be listed all the time, but larger, well-known studios will likely be noted here
Director: The name of the director
Top Cast: This is a list of two or three actors who play the main characters. These persons will be selected at the choice of the reviewer, which may or may not match the top-billing from the studio
Now, with that all out of the way, look to the menu on the left to select a film review that might interest you.
